One of my fondest memories is my non- native German speaking mother sprinkling in German idioms with a mischievous look. Just to see if it works and making us laugh in the process

This might be cruel of me to admit, but I love malapropisms and mixing idioms and metaphors. I started saying 'we'll burn that bridge when we come to it' years ago and now I can't stop. It confuses students and others all the time.

I tend to really enjoy sporting idioms that are used frequently: level the playing field, par for the course, set the bar high, below the belt, out of my depth, thrown in at the deep end...
